Mission to Read - JCPL Summer Reading Program 2019

Jefferson County Public Library Summer Reading Program

By Julie Dikken, Publisher and Editor Arvada & Evergreen Macaroni Kid May 31, 2019

Growing up, I looked forward to the summer reading program every summer break. It was exciting to head to the library to officially get signed up and we looked forward to visiting each week to check out new books and get our logs signed off. One of the treats we earned was going to Lakeside Amusement Park as our reward for completing our goal. Thanks to my mom for keeping us on track, I now have such a strong love for reading! I'm happy that the library has kept the tradition going so our generation of kids will learn from it too!

JCPL Summer Reading 2019 Program is "Mission to Read"

The Mission to Read summer reading program kicks off June 1st and runs through July 31st. Participants will be able to sign up online for free, or register in person at your local JCPL.

Kids can play along by reading, logging minutes to win prizes! Here is how it works:

  • Check in for your mission by registering for the program. Sign up individually or as a family.
  • Report your minutes to basecamp. Log your reading minutes online starting June 1st. For every hour you rad you earn a digital badge!
  • Mission Goals. JCPL Is challenging all kids and teens to an additional mission - to read for their schools. Click here to learn more.
    • Babies & Toddlers (age 0-3) complete 8 hours of pre-reader activities (read, write, talk, play and sing)
    • Kids (ages 4-11) Read 8 hours
    • Teens (ages 12-18) Read for 16 hours
    • Adults (ages 19+) Read 16 hours
  • Mission Prizes. Three prizes to be awarded. One at registration, your second at the halfway point of your goal, and the final prize once you have reached your goal. Prizes avaialbe at your local JCPL library while supplies last.

Help Foothills Animal Shelter with reading too! When 50 million minutes have been logged as a county, Foothills Animal Shelter will receive a $500 cash reward!
