By Christine Robenalt, Sweet Pea Pediatric Wellness October 16, 2019

A big hug and hello from me to you! My name is Christine and I am an Arvada resident with 3 kiddos, a husband, 2 dogs, a cat and a fish.  I am a pediatric physical therapist and recently I started a business called Sweet Pea Pediatric Wellness.  My reason behind starting this business is simple, to bring childhood development classes right to your home

How Sweet Pea Pediatric Wellness Began

I remember being in the hospital after having my first son.  It was a rainy April morning nearly 12 years ago and yet it feels like just yesterday.  I stood in the bathroom on the cold tile floor staring at my tired face in the mirror.  I had just mustered enough stamina to get my first shower and all I could think was he is mine; there is no giving him back; this is not a babysitting job. I was so excited to realize a girlhood dream of mine to be a mom. But at the same time, I was anxious that I would mess it all up.

For me, the road to motherhood was not easy.  We had experienced 3 prior miscarriages and two Novembers earlier, we had delivered a little girl with an inoperable neural tube defect. Marie passed soon after her delivery at only 18 weeks gestation.  So you can imagine that I wanted everything about the growth and development of my son to be perfect... textbook.  I wanted a textbook baby.  I wanted someone to tell me all of the answers right there and then on how to get that “Angel Baby”.

After some initial difficulties latching and nursing, I soon realized that even if there was the "perfect" book, it probably was not the only way to raise a healthy, balanced child.  I began to develop much more of an intuitive sense and followed my gut on what was the “right” thing to do.  One of the things I did with my son was give him daily massages.  I remember my dad giving me back rubs as a child and I was afterall, a physical therapist.   What I didn’t know was that there were actual strokes to the feet, hands and back along with positioning of head, neck and body that can help promote development. Two more babies (and 1 surrobaby) later, I took a certification course through Loving Touch International to become a Certified Infant Massage Instructor.

Massage is a Gift We Can Share With Our Children. I'd Like to Share That Gift With You!

As a certified infant massage instructor, I learned the benefits of massage not only on the child, but also on the caregiver providing the massage.  I learned about how this soothing, safe touch can teach your child so much about his body and promote motor development for skills such as rolling, sitting and crawling.

I view massage as a gift we can share with our children and I would like to share that gift with you too!  I teach private and small group classes in your home.  Class registration is per family and you will receive a downloadable PDF which includes all of the massage strokes and sequences. You can learn more about infant and child massage at my website sweetpeapediatricwellness.com. There is even an interactive way for you to receive a personalized massage sequence.

Now, I have yet to find that book with all of the answers, but I can teach you how to tune into your own intuition and use massage as a way to help your little one with sleeping, digestion, bonding and overall development. I hope we will be able to chat soon.
