In today’s seemingly upside-down world, my family feels like we’ve lost control. Social distancing wasn't a concept we ever considered and who would have guessed that face masks would be a normal part of our wardrobe. Now with families having to choose between in-person learning, distance learning and home schooling options, kids are feeling it too.

Craziness aside, one thing for certain is that no matter which schooling option we choose, the “what’s for lunch?” dilemma still exists. Our weekdays may be mixed up, but kids still need lunch!

In 3 steps - with the help of Walmart and easy lunches from Kraft Heinz-we can put students back in control.

1. Help them make a list of their ideal lunch. #MomTip: offer hints to add easy favorites from Kraft Heinz. Maia’s list included Kraft Easy Mac cups, Hershey’s pudding and carrots, all items she can successfully prepare on her own.

2. Head to Walmart and give them the list. Let them lead the way, push the cart, find their items and scan everything themselves to check out.

3. Put them in charge of lunch, whether it be packing a bag or preparing lunch at home. Kids will feel proud of their independence and parents can take one thing off their to-do list for the day.

Whether they will be heading to the classroom, or schooling at the kitchen table, following these simple steps can help kids feel in control. Along the way you will be encouraging independence, teaching problem solving, and building confidence - with an added bonus of taking a task off your own to-do list!

These steps are tried and true and proven to be successful - check out this fun video clip Maia helped me create. She’s so proud that “She can do it herself”!
