Say Hello to Your New Indoor Friend - We Rock the Spectrum Kids' Gym in Arvada
When you hear those toddler giggles, you know you're the best Grammie (or Mommy) ever, right? That's exactly what happened when my 3-year-old granddaughter and I arrived at the We Rock The Spectrum Kid's Gym in Arvada. The entrance welcomes kids with cute kid-themed cartoon characters and windows. Step inside the glass doors and get ready for excited kid-mode.
How to Find the We Rock the Spectrum Kids' Gym in Arvada
Located just west of Wadsworth on 80th ( the southwest side at the intersection of 80th & Carr), this location is perfect for families living in the northern corridor of Jefferson County (Arvada, Broomfield, Westminster). Enter the shopping center, and you'll find the gym behind Buffalo Wild Wings on the southwest side near Carr Street with plenty of free parking within steps from the gym. Enter through a fun kid-cartooned glass door (a perfect photo opportunity!).
How Does it Work?
Front and center is a long cabinet with shelves made for shoes and personal items, creating a physical partition between the entrance and the actual gym. All family members entering the gym must remove their shoes, and before I had even checked in, my granddaughter had her shoes off, at the ready to enter the kids' gym.
The owner Amy greeted us and I completed a basic information sheet about my granddaughter (address, phone, age, birthdate, etc). And then she opened the gate -- and it was bye-bye Grammie. She was off exploring the swings, trampoline, climbing webbing, with a barely a glance at me. Our visit was an early Sunday morning, and we only shared the gym with another family of three (mom, a toddler, and her 8-9-ish-year-old autistic son). Since this first visit, we've also shared the gym with a dozen or so kids, and there's plenty of room to roam.
What is There to DO at this Kids' Gym?
Open play allows children to enjoy full use of the gym and just let loose and have fun. But what is there to do and can it keep your kid busy? Absolutely.
If you ask my granddaughter, she'll tell you it's all about the zip line, a kid-friendly thrill that challenges the kids to hold on long enough to make it to the end, where kids can let go and tumble into a padded crash pit. This is the one activity my granddaughter literally can do over. And over. And Over. And Over. And over again. When I give her the 5-minute warning that it's time to go, she'll go back to the zip line and ride it until I make her leave. This ride is also a good opportunity to learn to share with the other kids at the gym.
But there's plenty more to do:
- Zip Box with Slide
- Climbing Structures
- Crash Pit
- Bolster Swing
- Tunnel
Carpet Swing - Trampoline
- Hammock Swing
- Swivel Rotators / Carabiners with Webbing
- Mini-kids "Workout" equipment & More
There's also an arts & crafts section of the gym, as well as quiet room for kids who need to de-compress or Moms who may need to take the smaller kids away from the noise.
Concerned about safety?
The owner Amy has done an amazing job of making the gym as safe as possible when playing -- with safety nets, padded gym floor, and more. At the entrance (as mentioned above), security from the outside world is contained with the added buffer of a cabinet-like-wall at the entrance, a secured gate before entering, and the best part -- video camera monitoring in all the nooks and crannies of the gym.
Kids' Gym for Kids of All Abilities
The coolest part of this gym is that it's a welcoming environment for kids to play together -- and that's kids of all abilities. The owner's son was diagnosed with autism in 2015, so when researching ways to build sensory gyms, she discovered We Rock gyms and that's how this family-owned sensory-conscious gym arrived in Arvada.
All children are invited to open play with the full use of the gym, its equipment, and the arts & crafts section. In addition, We Rock the Spectrum also offers unique special events, such as field trips, parent's night out, toddler time, and more. Classes are also offered for both children with special needs and those typically developing.
