Girls' Night In: ViaONEHope Wine Tasting Party

Have Fun, Taste Wine and Donate to a Local Charity

By Diana Rowe, Publisher Arvada-Wheat Ridge-Golden Macaroni Kid November 1, 2017

Sometimes Moms just need a break, and why not invite your BFFs for a Girls’ Night in – and raise money for a good cause?  Recently, a local Macaroni Kid Mom Erin Chamberlain, Senior Director & Founding Leader of viaONEHOPE, contacted me about hosting a wine tasting event.

Well, I do like wine, and when Erin explained that not only is ViaONEHOPE a super fun in-home wine tasting, but it’s also a fundraiser for a local charity.  Better yet – I get to choose the charity.

More about viaONEHOPE Wine

Primarily produced in collaboration with California winemaker Robert Mondavi Jr, ONEHOPE offers award-winning wine. Each bottle of wine is paired with a social impact as a portion of profits from each bottle is donated to a charity.

Donations support many programs including literacy education, breast cancer awareness, bullying counseling, and more. Funds are also donated to provide meals for children in need and adoption for shelter animals.

And check out the catalog!  Along with the description of the wine, also included is what charity that particular wine benefits.  For example, this is how the description appears under each bottle of wine in the catalog.

Viognier (Core Collection page 6 of Summer / Fall Catalog)

Thistle Flower | Honeysuckle | Nectarine | Dried Apple
Every four cases provides 1 hour of job preparation to the homeless.

All this is amazing – but what really attracted me to this concept is the local component.  When you host an ONEHOPE wine tasting party, an additional 10 percent is donated to the charity, as chosen by the hostess!

Now Cheers to the real fun – the wine tasting!

Book In-Home Wine Tasting Events

If you’re like me and most other moms, narrowing down a date that works for you AND your girlfriends is not so easy.  Finally in mid-October, I connected with Erin and 11 of my best girlfriends, inviting them to my home for a wine tasting party.

Once I had agreed to book an in-home wine tasting event, other than send out invitations, Erin did all the work. She created an event page for my part on Facebook. She posted fun little reminders about the upcoming party and even polled those we had RSVP’ed to find out what types of wine everyone liked. And with my 11 guests, we all liked some of the same wines, but we also chose different types.

Some of my friends like Pinot Grigio (like me), and we did get an opportunity to taste ONEHOPE’s version.  However, Erin stepped up the game and suggested we also try a Reisling.  I reluctantly agreed as I’m not a fan of sweet wines, but this ended up being my favorite.

I asked my friends to all bring a side dish, while Erin brought the ONEHope wine for our private tasting.  And then we let the fun begin.  It was a beautiful fall day, and Erin poured many amazing and surprising wines to taste.

Cheers to Supporting Local Charities – and Tasting ONEHOPE wine

Just as ONEHOPE encouraged us to do, we mixed, mingled and made an impact.  We tasted many wines, and we ordered wines to be delivered to our homes.  Erin was in no way a pushy salesperson, but instead, she simply made herself available and answered questions about the wines. Several of us shared a case, so that we could take advantage of the great pricing for a full case.

And we also donated to a local charity. I am a huge supporter of any local charity that supports children, so for this wine tasting, I selected Ralston House.  For one afternoon, we sampled many great wines – and donated $65 to our cause.
