British Swim School - Broomfield Louisville

Back floats and the Peanut Butter & Jelly Stroke

By Diana Rowe, Publisher Macaroni Kid Arvada - Wheat Ridge - Golden January 26, 2018

Follow along as I update the progress of my 3-year-old granddaughter Leigha from her first swimming lessons to now.  Tomorrow (Saturday) we'll pack up her swimming suit and cap and head to the Marriott Westminster swimming pool for Leigha's 15th lesson with British Swim School - Broomfield Louisville.

Leigha has never been afraid of the water -- which as parents and grandparents you know can be awesome and scary at the same time.  Yet I'm amazed at how much progress she's made in just over 3 months of once a week lessons. She started as a Starfish level swimmer (appropriate for 3-year-olds) and has now advanced to Turtle -- and we are proud parents and grandparents when she "graduates" into the next level.

From only wearing floaties to swimming underwater and back floats for more than a minute, the peace of mind that comes with knowing your child is safer in or near the water is priceless.

Our session last Saturday with instructor Meredith was focused on the "peanut butter and jelly" stroke.  She already jumps into the water and then resurfaces with ease.  She already rolls over and proceeds to a back float. And now after just one week, Leigha surfaces and then brings her hands out of the water and does the peanut butter and jelly stroke.

See for yourself in the YouTube video below.  The first video clip is to show how easily she swims underwater and then goes to the back float. Then witness that stroke on the last few seconds of the next video clip.

I will be updating each week on my granddaughter's progress via our newsletter and our Facebook page.
