For most of us, this summer has been a little different than most. Thank goodness for our parks and playgrounds! My kids love exploring new playgrounds, and our community has so many playgrounds and parks that we don't even know exist!
Chris Sekirnjak of Wheat Ridge felt the same way, so he decided to research all the playgrounds and parks in the metro Denver area and compiled a handy guide called Denver Playgrounds & Parks, complete with ratings and reviews. It's available as a book and a smartphone app. If you are searching to expand your playground and park adventures this summer, this book and app would be great resources for you!
The book was updated in 2016, so there are some new parks and updated playgrounds that are not listed. In the first section of the book, you will find a list of the 737 parks organized by area with the address, rating based on 0-5 stars, and when the playground was built. At the back of the book, you will find photos of the 50 top-rated parks around the city with handy details at your fingertips. There is also an index so you can easily locate information on a specific park by name.
The app has over 750 playgrounds and is updated regularly. The free version provides names, locations, and photo previews on a zoomable map. An in-app purchase gives you access to over 1500 photos, ratings, and amenity and play equipment features.
I have been able to check out both the book and app. My kids love looking through the book and checking out the pictures of the playgrounds. We've been to 12 of the parks that are listed in the top 50. Overall, I agree with the ratings Chris gave the parks. The paid version of the app is amazing! You can view the parks on the map or in an alphabetical list. You can save parks on three different lists: Been There, Favorite, and Must Visit. You can then filter the map to see these different lists. There's also a place to take notes about each park.
Both of these resources would be great for families who enjoy discovering new parks and to keep track of your favorites.
In addition, we are excited to be introducing the Parks & Playgrounds - Arvada, Wheat Ridge, Golden ~ Macaroni Kid Guide! This guide lists the parks in Arvada, Wheat Ridge, and Golden and includes an interactive map -- so you can find them easily. It will be a great resource for our Macaroni Kid readers and help find new parks and old favorites.
